Winter Solstice 2005

REVIEW
It was an astounding turn out this year. EH estimated the numbers at 1,000 most other people estimated it more like 1,300 people. It was only a few years ago when the numbers of people at the Winter Solstice at Stonehenge was in double or maybe just into triple figures. This is the first year visitor numbers have gone into 4 figures :-O

The torch procession went off well except that because there were so many people it was difficult or in some cases impossible to get into the centre. The wonderful 'Singing Bowls' were relegated to performing outside the stones as they simply couldn't get inside which was a great shame.

A lot of people arrived in the morning of the open access and the traffic was brought to a complete stand still as cars tried to turn across the line of traffic into the lane, except that the lane was full of a backlog of cars trying to find room to park.

As for the weather conditions - well you can see them from the videos. Just as we were leaving (so the punters could walk round the outside) the sun came out from behind the clouds & lit everything up in a golden haze of the morning mist. That looked magical.

I've taken photos, but decided to abandon digital in favour of a couple of big, heavy, old 'real' 35mm SLR cameras. So I've got to wait for 'Truprint' to send the prints & digital versions back before I can put up the picture galleries. There might be some good ones ... fingers crossed :-)

Hopefully the ones I took of the stones around 9:30am from the lane where we were parked up will come out. I hope I've managed to capture the truly magical view of a field full of white mist-laden cobwebs, with the stones in the misty distance. Gosh, it was lovely.

Love, Light & Peace
