Autumnal Equinox 2005

We arrived at the lane by Stonehenge at around 6:00pm on Thursday 22nd September. The sun was low in the sky, lighting up the fluffy clouds with shades of reds and oranges. "Red Sky at Night, Shepherd's delight" so the saying goes.

After eating some specially baked 'Harvest Flapjacks', which were enjoyed by all those who eat them! :-) we climbed the stile nearly opposite the Stonehenge carpark toilets & walked to the Burial Mounds. For those who find walking difficult, but press on because they specifically want to climb one of the Sacred Mounds, a sign at the stile telling you that the Burial Mounds were fenced off & couldn't be climbed might be a good idea. However, it was clear to see the erosion that was being caused to the mounds, which was the reason why they were fenced off.

The walk to the Burial Mounds & round them was in itself a wonderful experience. The evening was quite warm even after the sun had set and the waning full moon offered more than enough light once it did get dark.

After a walk to the top lane camp fire for a chat we retired to bed in Daizie, the Mercury Moon 'Bulance having set our alarm for the wee small hours - Maybe two 'Harvest Flapjacks' was one too many ? :-) So we settled down for the night with a clear sky & shining stars.

We were amazed when we awoke to discover the world was white outside. No it hadn't snowed. But then with Global Warming & Climate Patten Changes we're not likely to see much snow in Southern England - Not until the Gulf Stream shuts down & we discover what it REALLY means to be on the same latitude as Moscow. It was white because there was a thick fog. So, after a warming Brandy Coffee we ventured outside meeting folks some of whom we only ever meet at Stonehenge.

For the Autumnal Equinox a group of musicians with singing bowls performed as part of a worldwide Musical 'Peace Message'. You can hear the amazing sonics in the videos below. You can see in the photos & video the fog which hung in the early morning air. So we didn't see the sun rise clearly, but it didn't matter. The experience was there. The feeling.

The candle which burns (above left) is for Nora (right) who was at the Autumnal Equinox & has done so much for the Stonehenge Peace Movement. She suffered the first in a series of strokes days after the photo was taken. She passed over in January 2006. Nora was and is, I'm sure all who know her would agree, one of the most lovely human beings you could possibly meet.
Love, Light & Peace,
Kev & Fee
We hope you enjoy the photo gallery & videos.
